Editorial Board Guidelines

The Editorial Board of “WSHIU Scientific Notebooks: Theory and Practice of Social Security” is composed of scholars, scientists, and researchers who have recognised expertise in the journal’s subject areas.

Annual confirmation

To support consistent academic quality and compliance with relevant regulatory and indexing requirements, each Editorial Board member is expected to provide an annual confirmation of eligibility and activity. The following expectations apply.

Eligibility expectations

  • Hold an appropriate academic degree and professional standing, and be affiliated with a recognised research or higher education institution
  • Conduct research and publish in areas aligned with the mission and scope of the journal
  • Have at least three publications within the last five years indexed in Web of Science Core Collection or Scopus, published across at least two peer reviewed academic journals

If a member does not meet the expectations listed above, or does not actively participate in Editorial Board activities, the journal may suspend, remove, or replace that member.

Joining the Editorial Board

The journal welcomes expressions of interest from qualified candidates who wish to join the Editorial Board. Applications should be submitted to the Editorial Office and include a curriculum vitae and a brief statement of expertise and research interests.

Editor in Chief responsibilities

The Editor in Chief is a subject matter expert in the areas covered by the journal. The Editor in Chief is responsible for editorial leadership and for final decisions on which submissions are accepted for publication. The Editor in Chief also ensures that all editorial processes follow the core practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee initial screening of submissions and ensure basic compliance with journal requirements
  • Set and maintain editorial policy, including aims and scope, peer review standards, and publication procedures
  • Ensure that only high quality, ethically sound research is accepted for publication
  • Review published content and contribute to the strategic development of the journal
  • Represent the journal in academic and professional settings to support its reputation and visibility
  • Communicate journal policies to authors, reviewers, and editors, and address non compliance when it occurs
  • Support the development of the reviewer and author community, including inviting submissions in relevant areas
  • Appoint Editorial Board members and appoint a Deputy Editor in Chief, while ensuring safeguards against conflicts of interest

Deputy Editor in Chief responsibilities

The Deputy Editor in Chief supports the Editor in Chief and may act on behalf of the Editor in Chief when appropriate. This role helps ensure continuity, reduces operational burden, and supports independent handling of submissions when a conflict of interest arises.

The Deputy Editor in Chief should:

  • Be able to act independently in cases involving potential conflict of interest between authors and the Editor in Chief
  • Follow the journal’s policies and ethical standards, including the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics
  • Have no personal or financial relationships that could compromise independence in editorial decision making

Editorial Board members responsibilities

Editorial Board members may be invited to provide expert advice on submissions, recommend reviewers, and contribute to peer review when appropriate. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Promote the journal within academic and professional networks in areas related to social security
  • Encourage high quality submissions from relevant research communities
  • Provide feedback and suggestions that strengthen editorial workflows and publication quality
  • Support the journal’s visibility in reputable libraries, indexing services, and research repositories, when appropriate
